The E-1313 shell and tube heat exchanger manufactured by Polimer Grzegorz Grzesik
is responsible for condensing reaction gas (acetic acid) and utilising the steam produced in this
process, by transporting it to the turbine. A hydraulic pressure test on the tube side was carried
out at 27.5 bar(g).
Tube sheets, heads, and conical and cylindrical chambers were explosively cladded with grade 1 Titanium. Polimer developed its own butt welding technology for connecting titanium cladded carbon steel plates to ensure its hermeticity.
For heat transfer, 2330 titanium tubes of 7000 mm length were applied and 100% eddy current tested after production and assembly. A helium leak test was performed and the maximum leakage recorded was 10-7 Pa*m3/s.
